I know several accountants or graduates of accounting programs, and they seem to be the most versatile people when it comes to landing a job. Of the handful I know, only half work as actual accountants; the others work in secretarial and retail positions. All of them, however, make a decent paycheck, and it turns out that the trend I see may be a national one.
According to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the demand for accounting graduates is strong and will continue to be so. Really, this shouldn’t be surprising; as long as there is money and enough of us who manage it poorly and have to count our fingers when we balance our checkbooks, we’re going to need accountants to help us out.
